US President Donald Trump, in an address to the nation on the night of April 2, said that American troops are close to completing their assigned tasks in the war in Iran.
He said the US intends to launch "extremely strong strikes" against Iran in the next two to three weeks. He noted that, in his assessment, the main strategic objectives are already close to being achieved.
Trump also said that if Iran refuses to agree to a deal on Washington's terms, the United States could strike "very hard at every one of the country's power plants," possibly simultaneously.
Furthermore, the US President called on countries that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure its use independently. He said these states must take responsibility for protecting this route. He also noted that the US does not need this supply route.
The address was reportedly broadcast by several agencies, but no media representatives were present. A video recording of the speech was published on the White House website but was subsequently removed without explanation.
The day before, Trump stated that the US-Israeli war against Iran could end within the next two to three weeks. He said the attacks could be stopped even without an agreement with Iran's leadership.
He also noted that the goal of US actions was to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and, according to him, this objective has been achieved. Trump, however, allowed for the possibility of an earlier end to the conflict if an agreement is reached.
According to the US President, oil prices could drop significantly after the attacks stop.
