General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping met with Chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) of China Zheng Liwen in Beijing.
The meeting between the leaders of the Communist Party of China and the Kuomintang is of great importance for the development of relations between the two parties and across the Taiwan Strait. This was stated by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping during a meeting with Kuomintang Chairman Zheng Liwen. He stated that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the Chinese nation, and representatives of all ethnic groups, including Taiwan compatriots, have jointly built a unified multi-ethnic country and strengthened the shared belief that nation and country cannot be divided.
General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping: "The world has undergone rapid changes over the past century. However, no matter how the international landscape and the situation across the Taiwan Strait develop, the overall direction of human development and progress will not change, the overall trend toward the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will not change, and the prevailing momentum for the reunification of Chinese people on both sides of the Strait will not change. This is a historical inevitability, and we have full confidence in this."
Xi Jinping noted that compatriots on both sides of the Strait share common roots and culture. He asserted that differences in social systems should not be used as a pretext for dividing the country. He noted that the CPC and the Kuomintang must oppose separatist activities and attempts at foreign interference, upholding the one-China principle. He also emphasized the importance of promoting the improvement of living standards and well-being for people on both sides of the Strait through communication and integration. Mainland China welcomes the return of Taiwanese compatriots and youth to exchange experiences and develop. In conclusion, Xi Jinping called for striving for national reunification and national rejuvenation through solidarity.
For her part, Kuomintang Party Chairwoman Zheng Liwen stated that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the Chinese nation and are steeped in Chinese culture. She said they must join forces to jointly advance the process of national rejuvenation. Zheng Liwen stated that the Kuomintang and the CPC must uphold the one-China principle, strengthen political trust, promote Chinese culture, develop cooperation, and support youth exchanges.
