Filming for the documentary "Ancient Khuttal" has begun in Tajikistan, timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of state independence and the International Symposium "Ancient Khuttal." This was announced by the state-run Tajikfilm agency.
The film is dedicated to the study and popularization of the history of the Khatlon region, which is referred to in various sources as Khuttal, Khuttalon, Khatlon, and Kulyab. The film will reflect historical processes from ancient times to the Middle Ages, drawing on scientific data.
The documentary focuses on historical monuments, as well as the development of arts, crafts, and traditions of the region's population.
The film will consist of several parts, each 50 minutes long. Renowned historians, including Yusufshhokh Yakubov, Jonibek Asroriyon, and Farogat Azizi, are expected to participate in the production.
It was previously reported that the Ancient Khuttal Historical and Cultural Complex, comprising 11 monuments in the Khatlon Region, was added to the UNESCO Tentative List in 2025. These include the Khulbuk Fortress, the Khulbuk ancient settlement, the Manzarateppa settlement (Vosei District), the Zoli Zar Fortress, the Mausoleum of Mavlono Tajiddin (Dangara), the Zoli Zar ancient settlement, Shahrteppa, the Tokhir caravanserai (Farkhor District), the Buddhist monasteries of Hishteppa (Khovaling) and Ajinateppa (Vakhsh), and the ancient settlement of Halevard (Jaloliddin Balkhi District).
