On January 20, 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Abdurahmonzoda Abdurahmon Safarali, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Tajikistan, Catherine Smithton. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Abdurakhmonzoda A.S. noted that strengthening economic cooperation with international partners and attracting foreign investment are among the priority areas of state policy of the Republic of Tajikistan and are under the constant attention of the President of the country, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon.


During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in economics and trade, investment, the green economy, digitalization, education, and public administration. According to the ministry, both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of economic ties and emphasized the significant increase in bilateral trade turnover last year, citing it as an important indicator of strengthening economic relations.
At the end of the meeting, the parties considered it advisable to make greater use of the UK system of trade preferences for developing countries in order to expand exports of products from the Republic of Tajikistan to the UK market.
