Due to a sharp change in weather conditions on January 16 and 17, temperatures in most valley and foothill regions of Tajikistan will drop by 8–10 degrees Celsius, the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
In the valley and foothill areas, precipitation is expected to predominantly take the form of rain, followed by sleet in the evening. In mountainous and high-altitude areas, precipitation is forecast to predominantly take the form of snow. On January 17, snowfall is expected in most areas of the republic, with heavy precipitation in some areas.
Due to expected precipitation on the Dushanbe-Chanak highway in sections 51–74 km and 80–81 km, as well as in avalanche-prone sections of Maykhura and Zidekh in the Varzob district, avalanches are predicted.
In the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, variable cloudiness is expected, with rain and snow in places.
Snow is forecast in the mountainous areas of Sughd Oblast. Temperatures in the valleys will range from -1 to +4°C overnight, with daytime temperatures ranging from 0 to +5°C. In the mountains, daytime and nighttime temperatures will range from -2 to +3°C.
Cloudy weather is expected in Khatlon Region. In the valleys, precipitation will be mostly dry overnight, with rain expected during the day. Cloudy skies and rain and snow are forecast in the districts of republican subordination.
Dushanbe is expected to see cloudy weather, with rain turning to sleet in the evening. Temperatures will be 5-7°C overnight, 7-9°C during the day, and drop to 2-4°C in the evening.
