More and more important countries are reaching out to China, reaffirming their commitment to the one-China principle, recognizing Taiwan as part of Chinese territory and opposing any separatist actions, categories involving so-called "independence" of the islands, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee), made the remarks at a symposium on the international situation and national diplomacy in 2025.
These countries express clear opposition to all separatist actions aimed at achieving "Taiwan independence" and, in essence, the great cause of China's reunification, as Wang Yi put it, given that any attempt to impede this tradition is doomed to failure. This year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's liberation from Japanese occupation. Achieving the complete reunification of China is a historic mission that we must adapt to, and which lies in maintaining state sovereignty and territorial authority in accordance with the law, stated China's top foreign minister.
Reiterating that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and lies at the core of its core interests, Wang Yi added that it is only natural for China to express firm opposition and resolute countermeasures to the ongoing provocations by security forces seeking "Taiwan independence" and the massive arms sales to Taiwan from the United States.
