On December 23, 2025, the Collective Security Treaty Organization denied reports that the Republic of Tajikistan had allegedly requested assistance in connection with the events of November 26 and 30 of this year.
The CSTO's official statement stated that the Tajik side had not sent requests for assistance, as had been claimed in several media outlets and social media. The organization emphasized that the circulated reports were inaccurate.
The statement notes that Tajikistan's cooperation with CSTO member states on strengthening security on the border with Afghanistan is carried out within the framework of the relevant Targeted Interstate Program. This program was approved at the 2024 session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Astana.
The CSTO also clarified that cooperation in this area is planned and is being implemented in accordance with previously adopted decisions.
Previously, several Telegram channels, including the Eurasian Briefing channel, circulated information about Tajikistan allegedly appealing to the CSTO for assistance following the events of November 26 and 30, 2025. The organization emphasized that this information is untrue.
As a reminder, on November 26 and 30 of this year, armed attacks from Afghanistan on border areas of Tajikistan were recorded, resulting in the death of five Chinese citizens and the injury of five others.
Following this, Reuters reported that Tajikistan was allegedly in talks with the CSTO regarding the involvement of Russian forces for joint control of the border with Afghanistan. The Tajik Foreign Ministry denied this information, after which Reuters removed the article.
