On December 20, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo, the presidential press service reported.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan were discussed.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to Ms. Sanae Takaichi for the warm welcome and high level of organization of the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue Summit.
The parties discussed cooperation between the two countries, focusing on the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission, the development of interparliamentary dialogue, and the effective work of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
Important topics of the meeting included the development of trade, economic, and investment cooperation, and the implementation of socio-economic and infrastructure projects in Tajikistan.
An exchange of views took place on attracting Japanese investment, technology, and preferential loans, as well as the participation of leading Japanese companies in the creation of joint industrial ventures in the fields of electronics, automotive transport, pharmaceuticals, mineral processing, and agriculture.
It was proposed to adopt a Trade and Economic Cooperation Program for the next three years (2026–2028).
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the field of the digital economy and artificial intelligence.
It was deemed necessary to involve Japanese companies in the development of deposits, as well as to create joint ventures in the areas of processing cotton, silkworm cocoons, vegetables and fruits, and medicinal plants.
The tourism industry, including eco-tourism, mountain tourism, and recreational tourism, as well as the cultural and humanitarian sphere and education, were identified as promising areas of cooperation.
Interest was expressed in increasing the number of scholarships for training specialists in the fields of medicine, aviation engineering, information security and environmental protection.
The active cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan in international and regional organizations, primarily the United Nations, as well as mutual support for initiatives within their framework, was emphasized.
It was noted that East Asian countries are seen as important partners in addressing global challenges, including climate change, food security and disease control.
At the end of the conversation, President Emomali Rahmon invited the Prime Minister of Japan to pay an official visit to Tajikistan.
