Today, an expanded meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council was held in Bishkek. At the meeting, Imangali Tasmagambetov, who is outgoing as Secretary General of the organization, was thanked and the decision to appoint a new Secretary General was approved. The new Secretary General will be a representative of the Kyrgyz Republic, Astana TV reports.
The leaders of Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan discussed current issues related to ensuring collective security for the participating countries, summarized the implementation of the CSTO's key work areas in 2025, and identified priorities for the upcoming period.
The summit participants thanked Imangali Tasmagambetov, who is completing his tenure as CSTO Secretary General.
During the meeting, a decision was approved to appoint Taalatbek Masadykov, a representative of the Kyrgyz Republic, as the CSTO Secretary General, effective January 1, 2026, for a term of three years. Masadykov currently holds the position of Deputy Secretary General of the organization.

Following the event, the Declaration of the Collective Security Council was adopted, and a number of documents were signed aimed at further comprehensive improvement of the collective security system in the interests of all member states.
The heads of state exchanged views on current issues of international and regional security.
