On the morning of August 9, a passenger bus was struck in a Kherson suburb, killing two people and injuring 16 others to varying degrees. This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office press service.
According to the agency, at approximately 8:30 a.m., an unmanned aerial vehicle struck a commuter bus. All victims were inside the vehicle.
The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, clarified that two men were among the dead. "Another ten residents of the region were injured, two of whom are in serious condition. All the victims were hospitalized," he said. The death toll later rose to 16, six of whom were taken to hospitals.
Among the injured was an 83-year-old man with multiple chest and abdominal injuries, as well as shrapnel wounds to his arm. He is in serious condition. A 61-year-old man suffered acupuncture and multiple shrapnel wounds, and a 66-year-old woman suffered a concussion, a closed head injury, a broken collarbone, and shrapnel wounds.
An investigation has been launched into the incident on the grounds of violation of the laws and customs of war, resulting in the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The security situation in the region remains tense. Kherson and surrounding areas are subject to daily shelling. Earlier, it was reported that the road bridge connecting the city center with the Korabel neighborhood was damaged.
