The first phase of vaccination of girls against the human papillomavirus (HPV) will begin in Tajikistan this October. The government adopted a corresponding resolution on July 24. As part of the resolution, a national commission led by the Deputy Prime Minister was established, according to the press service of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan.
According to the Ministry, the vaccination will cover girls aged 10 to 14 and will last one month. Vaccinations for 10-year-old girls will be administered on a regular basis as part of the national health program.
Vaccinations will be free and offered in secondary schools and local healthcare facilities. The Ministry of Education and Science has been tasked with ensuring that schools have dedicated vaccination facilities, and the Committee on Religious Affairs has been tasked with educating the public about the importance of HPV prevention.
The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes. Some HPV types cause benign growths (warts and papillomas), while high-risk strains can lead to the development of malignant tumors, including cervical cancer.
