Preparations for the summit between US and Russian Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, have become a real challenge for the US Secret Service, Tengrinews.kz reports.
Deutsche Welle reported this on Friday, August 15, citing information from Bloomberg, which cited sources familiar with the situation.
Hotel rooms are limited in Anchorage. The car rental market is also quite limited. Therefore, vehicles are flown in or imported from other cities in the state. SUVs for the presidential motorcade are flown in from the lower 48 states on cargo planes.
The US Secret Service and the Russian Consulate contacted the same realtor in Anchorage, Bo Disbrow, to book short-term accommodations, the report states. Downtown hotels are full. Parking lots have been cleared to accommodate the escort motorcades. Alaska State Troopers and city services are involved in ensuring security.
Anchorage has hosted Pope John Paul II and former US President Ronald Reagan in previous years. However, this summit is one of the city's "most significant events," noted Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy.
The first meeting between the US and Russian presidents since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine will take place in Alaska on August 15. Trump and Putin will hold the summit at Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base in Anchorage.
According to Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the talks will begin with a one-on-one meeting between Trump and Putin, with interpreters available. The talks will then continue in a delegation format, followed by a working breakfast.
Following the talks, the presidents will hold a joint press conference. The central topic of the talks will be "settlement in Ukraine," including the results of the August 6 discussions in the Kremlin with the participation of US Special Presidential Envoy Steven Witkoff.
It was reported that broad issues related to ensuring peace and security and bilateral cooperation, in particular in the trade and economic sphere, would also be discussed.
