On the eve of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernová reminded that Ukraine wants peace, but "not at any cost." She wrote this on Facebook .
On the eve of the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, Maternova said that while the world awaits it with hope, hoping for a ceasefire, "the Russians continue as usual."
"Civilians are being killed. Last night in the Kherson region. Seven dead. Nine wounded. More than 100 houses destroyed. And as rescuers were removing the bodies, a Russian drone struck again, wounding three officers," she emphasized.
The EU ambassador noted that tomorrow's summit in Alaska will take place without Ukraine and other European countries.
"However, all existential questions about its future and ending the war must be resolved by Ukraine, with security guarantees from its friends and allies. Otherwise, Putin will strike again," she emphasized.
Maternova then emphasized that Ukraine wants peace, but not at any cost.
"I sincerely hope that the United States and President Trump will remember this tomorrow. For the sake of today's Ukrainian victims—and all others who have died as a result of Russian attacks," she concluded.
On August 15, a summit between Trump and the Kremlin leader will take place in Alaska. The American president stated that he believes Putin is attending the summit with the intention of "sealing an agreement" to end the war in Ukraine.
