The Ministry of Defense has created a specialized unit responsible for the implementation and development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the ministry's press service reported, as reported by Tengrinews.kz.
The new structure will become a key element of the Armed Forces' digital transformation, the Ministry of Defense noted.
"The unit's primary objectives are the development and implementation of AI solutions for analyzing large amounts of data, automating management, modeling operational scenarios, and increasing the speed of decision-making in modern military situations," the statement said.
The unit will collaborate with domestic and international research centers, leading universities, and specialized IT companies, which will not only enable the implementation of cutting-edge developments in defense but also the development of a national school of military application of artificial intelligence.
"The creation of an AI implementation unit is also aimed at developing human resources: it is planned to train analytical officers and digital technology specialists capable of working with modern algorithms and systems," the defense department added.
As a reminder, in early summer, President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, where he outlined the priority tasks facing the Armed Forces' high command. These included digitalization of the army and the use of artificial intelligence.
Later, Deputy Defense Minister Darkhan Akhmediyev announced the imminent launch of AI control.
"We're soon launching an AI department at the Ministry of Defense. I'm assembling a team. Let me know if you have any suitable candidates. A decent salary, a robust benefits package, and various military perks are available," Akhmediyev wrote on the social network Threads.
It also became known that AI will begin to participate in the selection of Kazakhstani conscripts.
