Inter-MFA consultations on "Interaction between CIS Member States within the Framework of UNESCO" took place on August 21 at the Commonwealth's headquarters, the Organization's Executive Committee press service reported.
Representatives from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee participated in the consultations.
The parties welcomed the upcoming holding of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand from 30 October to 13 November 2025 and exchanged views on substantive and organizational issues in preparation for the session, including elections to the governing and subsidiary structures of the Organization.
Representatives of the Commonwealth's foreign ministries shared their views on the outcomes of the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee and discussed the possibility of submitting joint nominations for inclusion on the World Heritage List.
The meeting addressed key aspects of coordinating the activities of CIS member states within UNESCO, including through their National Commissions for UNESCO. The importance of enhancing the role of National Commissions in the Organization's programmatic activities, as well as strengthening cooperation and sharing best practices between them, including on the sidelines of governing body meetings, was noted.
The need was noted for promoting the preservation of the intergovernmental, depoliticized nature of UNESCO's activities, the joint organization of events, including Russian Language Day, the participation of Commonwealth representatives in events organized in CIS member states by UNESCO, and the provision of mutual support for the promotion of initiatives.
The next consultations on cooperation within UNESCO are planned to be held in 2026.
