On September 20–21, the capital of Tajikistan will host the first-ever Sambo World Cup. The competition will take place at the sports complex of the Tajik National University, according to the Tajikistan Sambo Federation.
The tournament will feature wrestlers from Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. According to the International Sambo Federation (FIAS), the competition program includes 14 weight categories for men and women in sport sambo and the same number in combat sambo.
The 2025 World Sambo Cup is being held in two stages. The first stage took place on June 7–8 in Yerevan, Armenia, where Behruz Khalimov won gold and a $3,000 cash prize in combat sambo (64 kg), and Komronshhokh Ustopiriyon won silver and $2,000 in sport sambo (98 kg). The tournament in Dushanbe will be the second stage of the Cup, but no cash prizes will be awarded.
On the eve of the competition, the Cup medals were officially unveiled in the capital. Their design echoes the tournament logo and symbolizes the dynamic competition and the desire for victory.
The tournament is being organized by the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) in conjunction with the Tajikistan Sambo Federation. The event will be one of the region's key sporting events of the year.
