A meeting of the Council for Cultural Cooperation of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Dushanbe. Representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the CIS Executive Committee participated in the council's work, the organization's Executive Committee press service reported.
During the meeting, participants learned about Tajikistan's experience in preserving and developing cultural heritage. Particularly noted was the successful implementation of various cultural and humanitarian events envisaged in the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Concept for Tajikistan's Presidency of the CIS in 2025, including the 18th Forum of Creative and Scientific Intelligentsia.
Council members noted that the key cultural cooperation activities between the CIS countries for 2021–2025 are being implemented this year. These activities include concerts, festivals, creative competitions and events, exhibitions, and other cultural events, including those dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. The high level of organization by the Russian side of the "Grand Combined Choir of the CIS Member States" project was noted. A decision was made to continue efforts to preserve the memory of the Great Patriotic War and organize themed cultural events.
The meeting's agenda also included the preparation of draft Key Cultural Cooperation Events for 2026–2028 and discussion of the Regulations on the CIS Film Festival "Commonwealth" for subsequent consideration by the Council of Heads of Government.
Participants discussed the implementation of the Interstate Program "Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth" in Lachin, Azerbaijan, and Meghri, Armenia, as well as preparations for the International Exhibition "ART EXPO" in 2025 in Kyrgyzstan and in 2026 in Russia. Furthermore, support was given to Uzbekistan's initiative to hold Commonwealth Culture Days. The results of the work of key cultural organizations were reviewed, and the Council's Work Plan for 2026 was approved.
The next meeting of the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation is scheduled for the second half of 2026 in Turkmenistan.
