A meeting of the Interstate Council for Natural and Man-Made Emergencies was held in Dushanbe on September 18, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The event was attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting participants summarized the Council's activities for 2024–2025 and discussed current issues related to the prevention and response to natural and man-made emergencies. Particular attention was paid to strengthening cooperation between government agencies of the CIS member states to effectively ensure fire, industrial, nuclear, and radiation safety.
A schedule of verification checks for mutual notification of emergency situations among participating states for 2026 was approved. Council members also reviewed information on the activities of key science and high-tech organizations in protecting populations and territories from emergencies, as well as training personnel in emergency prevention and response.
The meeting summarized the results of the CIS Forces Corps' exercises to address the consequences of natural and man-made emergencies. It was established that such exercises will be held every four years, with the next scheduled for 2029.
Participants also reviewed preparations for the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident and approved the Council's Plan of Key Events for 2025–2026. The next meeting of the Interstate Emergency Council will be held in 2026 in Kazakhstan.
