The Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic has decided to dissolve itself early, the legislative body's press service reported. 84 of the 89 members present voted in favor of the initiative.
The initiative for the voluntary resignation of parliament was put forward by a group of deputies, who explained that it was intended to update the electoral system and avoid organizational complications. Specifically, according to the Constitution, the current parliamentary elections were scheduled for November 2026, with the presidential elections scheduled six weeks later. According to the initiators, such a short interval between key political events would lead to additional expenses and place a burden on the Central Electoral Commission.
"The time difference between two important political events—the presidential and parliamentary elections—is short, so in order to strengthen the political system and ensure stability in the country, the initiative group proposed that parliament voluntarily resign," noted MP Ulan Primov.
The decision to dissolve itself paves the way for new parliamentary elections, which will allow for a renewed legislative body and ensure more effective functioning of state institutions.
The parliament's press service also emphasized that the early self-dissolution is a voluntary and legal measure stipulated by the regulations and is aimed at maintaining political stability and strengthening democratic processes in the country.
