The winners of the International Astronomy Olympiad (OWAO-2025) were ceremoniously welcomed today at Dushanbe International Airport. The Olympiad was held from September 20 to 27 in Sochi, Russia, with teams from over 20 countries participating, according to the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan.
At this prestigious international competition, Tajikistan was represented by the national team led by teacher Sadriddin Mirzoev.
Among the team members: Husseini Gulomzoda, a student at the National University of Tajikistan, won a bronze medal; Safarzoda Erkin, a student at the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University, received the Honorable Mention Award.
At the welcoming ceremony, Nurullo Gafuriyon, First Deputy Director of the Republican Center for Talent Identification and Development, noted that this victory is not only a personal achievement for the young participants but also a source of pride for the entire Tajik nation. He emphasized that supporting talented youth and creating conditions for their development remain priorities for Tajikistan's education system.
According to representatives of educational institutions, the success of Tajik students demonstrates the high level of preparation and potential of the country's youth in the scientific field, as well as their ability to represent Tajikistan with dignity on the international stage.
The event also highlighted the importance of promoting scientific education and developing interest in astronomy among schoolchildren and students, which contributes to strengthening the country's scientific potential.
