On the night of July 21, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a massive strike on targets in Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, 426 attack drones, five Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, 14 Kh-101 cruise missiles, four Kalibr sea-based missiles, and one Iskander-K missile were launched at Ukrainian targets.
According to the Ukrainian military, 224 air attack units had been shot down or suppressed by Saturday morning. However, 23 strike UAV hits were recorded in various areas, as well as the fall of downed drones in 12 locations.
The most extensive destruction was noted in Kyiv. The head of the Kyiv city military administration Timur Tkachenko reported that in the Darnitsky district, as a result of falling debris, a fire broke out on the roof of a residential multi-story building, a supermarket and a non-residential building. In the Shevchenkivsky district, a residential building caught fire, as well as the balconies of a multi-story building. In the Dniprovsky district, shopping arcades were damaged, and drone debris fell on the territory of a kindergarten. In the Solomensky district, fires were recorded in a non-residential building and warehouses.
The city infrastructure was also damaged. In particular, the entrance to the Lukyanovskaya metro station was destroyed. The station is temporarily closed for entry and exit, trains are running without stopping. The rest of the metro stations are operating normally.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strike killed two people and injured 15 others. Among the victims was a 12-year-old boy. "We managed to shoot down many drones, but unfortunately not all of them. It is necessary to expand the air defense system and increase the number of interceptors," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to the National Police of Ukraine, one person died in Kyiv. Six people were injured in the Darnitsky and Shevchenkovsky districts.
In addition to Kyiv, the strikes also hit the west of the country. In Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, damage to infrastructure was recorded in three settlements. According to the city's mayor, Ruslan Martsinkiv, windows in residential buildings were knocked out in one of the villages. There are casualties, preliminarily with minor injuries.
