The global logistics and freight market continues to demonstrate sustainable growth and is becoming a key factor in economic development. This is stated in the new Global Transportation & Logistics Industry Report for 2024, published by the International Organization Benchmark International, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
According to the report, the global freight market size will reach USD 18.69 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 4.4%.
In addition, the document presents a forecast for the development of the global transport services market. In 2024, its volume was $8.54 trillion. According to experts, by 2034 this figure will double and reach $18.63 trillion. The average annual growth will be 8.11%.
Experts emphasize that logistics is not just delivery, but a whole management system: from storage and packaging to consulting and legal support. It is logistics that ensures the connection of all links in the production and distribution chain, contributing to the sustainable development of the global economy.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has repeatedly noted the strategic importance of logistics for sustainable economic growth. Speaking at various international forums, including the 78th session of ESCAP, the 16th ECO summit and the SCO summit, the head of state emphasized the need to create regional logistics centers, implement digital and intelligent management systems, and expand international transport corridors.
In particular, Emomali Rahmon stated that one of the most important projects could be the commissioning of the multimodal corridor “China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey – Europe”, which will ensure sustainable growth in freight traffic and economic cooperation between the participating countries.
At the national level, logistics is also recognized as a priority sector. Thus, on October 28, 2023, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan approved the "State Program for the Development of the Logistics System for 2023-2028". The document includes measures to modernize the logistics infrastructure, build logistics centers and expand international cooperation in the transport sector.
In addition, in the Addresses to the Majlisi Oli in 2023 and 2024, President Rahmon instructed the Ministry of Transport to intensify the implementation of investment projects aimed at the construction and reconstruction of roads of international importance, as well as strengthening the role of Tajikistan as a transit hub in Central Asia.
It was also noted that the state institution “Automobile Transport and Logistics Services”, created by a government decree in 2011, plays a key role in coordinating the development of the sector.
Experts and analysts believe that in the context of globalization and growing needs for fast and high-quality delivery of goods, logistics is becoming the supporting structure of economic growth and regional integration.
