The President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Kobiljon Khushvakhtzoda, held a meeting with foreign scientists who arrived in the republic to conduct research work on the Vanjakh glacier.
As reported by the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, within the framework of the international RECAP project, field work is planned for 2025. In 2024, two automatic meteorological stations were installed on the glacier. This year, it is planned to complete the installation of additional equipment and establish a comprehensive system for monitoring meteorological and glaciological parameters on the largest glacier in Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the terms and conditions for conducting scientific work in difficult high-altitude conditions, experience of working in glacial and mountainous terrain, as well as issues of transporting heavy equipment over difficult terrain were discussed.
It was noted that a significant portion of scientific equipment has already been deployed in the region, and automatic stations and backup equipment are operating near Lake Tanimas.
