An employee of the branch of JSC Dushanbe City Bank in the Asht district is suspected of embezzling more than three million somoni. This was reported on Monday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to law enforcement agencies, a 32-year-old resident of the Asht district, who held the position of senior collector-brigadier, withdrew cash in the amount of 3 million 70 thousand somoni from terminals and ATMs in the district entrusted to him between June 27 and 30, 2025. Instead of transferring these funds to the bank's current account, the suspect appropriated them, thereby causing particularly large material damage to the financial institution.
The man had been working at the bank since February 2021. His actions were identified as a result of operational and investigative measures carried out by police officers.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under Part 4 of Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan ("Misappropriation or embezzlement on an especially large scale"). The sanction of this article provides for a penalty in the form of a fine of up to 1824 calculated indicators (136,800 somoni) or imprisonment for up to 15 years.
The investigation of the criminal case is ongoing. The name of the suspect is not disclosed in the interests of the investigation.
