US President Donald Trump said he does not rule out the use of military force to gain control over Greenland, Interfax reports.
"I'm not ruling it out. I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but I'm not ruling anything out," he told NBC when asked about the possibility of such action.
"We need Greenland very much. Greenland is a very small number of people that we will take care of and we will cherish them and all that. But we need it for international security," Trump said.
Since taking office, the US president has repeatedly floated the idea of annexing Greenland, prompting widespread condemnation and concern both on the island and in the global diplomatic community. Greenland, an autonomous territory within Denmark, is seen by the US as strategically important both for defense and as a future source of mineral wealth.
