During the first half of 2026, law enforcement agencies and security forces in Tajikistan seized 1,513 kilograms of narcotics along the Tajik-Afghan border, according to the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the agency, during the same period last year, 1 ton, 692 kg, 421 g of drugs were seized on this section of the border.
The Agency emphasized that the Tajik-Afghan border remains the primary focus for preventing attempts to illegally import narcotics into the country.
In the first six months of this year, seven armed clashes with Afghan drug smugglers occurred on the border. During special operations, 17 Afghan citizens involved in attempts to illegally transport drugs across the border were neutralized.
The agency also noted that Tajikistan remains a transit country on the so-called Northern Route for the illegal trafficking of narcotics and synthetic psychotropic substances. According to the Agency, incoming information indicates the continued production of narcotics and psychotropic substances in Afghanistan, where clandestine laboratories for their production remain operational. However, no instances of opium poppy cultivation or narcotics production have been reported in Tajikistan.
