Large-scale celebrations dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the country's independence are taking place in the United States on Saturday, Interfax reports.
To mark the anniversary, US President Donald Trump will deliver a speech on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The American leader noted the extreme heat forecast for the capital.
"By the way, the temperature forecast for July 4th is 107 degrees Fahrenheit – 42 degrees Celsius. I'm going to give a really long speech just to show that I can handle anything," Trump said.
However, temperatures are forecast to drop to around 31 degrees Celsius by the time Trump delivers his speech, scheduled for 9:45 p.m. local time.
A military flyover is also planned in Washington, D.C., and a naval parade will take place in New York Harbor.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will host a concert show with fireworks and contests for spectators. Festivals and celebratory fireworks displays will also take place in American cities hosting World Cup matches.
The main fireworks display in Washington is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. local time.
The day before, celebratory events took place at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, home to the monumental bas-relief "Shrine of Democracy." There, the memory of service members was honored, family entertainment was organized, and a celebratory fireworks display was held.
Additionally, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts tournament was held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of US independence. It took place on June 14 at the White House—Donald Trump's birthday, which coincides with Flag Day.
