June 26 – Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Every year on June 26, the Republic of Azerbaijan proudly celebrates Armed Forces Day, honoring the brave servicemen and women who dedicate their lives to safeguarding the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the nation. This significant occasion serves not only as a tribute to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces but also as a reflection of the country's commitment to peace, security, and stability both within the region and beyond.

The foundation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces dates back to June 26, 1918, when the first military units of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic were established. This historic milestone laid the groundwork for the development of national armed forces and remains a symbol of Azerbaijan's enduring statehood traditions and commitment to national defense.

Following the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, the creation of a strong, professional, and modern military became one of the key priorities of the state. Under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, comprehensive reforms were launched to strengthen military institutions, improve combat readiness, and establish a modern defense system capable of addressing emerging security challenges. These reforms laid a solid foundation for the development of today's Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

In recent years, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has continued to modernize its military capabilities, investing significantly in advanced technologies, professional military education, and defense infrastructure. The country's Armed Forces have evolved into one of the most capable and technologically advanced military institutions in the region.

A defining chapter in Azerbaijan's modern history was the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, during which the Armed Forces demonstrated exceptional professionalism, courage, and determination. Guided by strong leadership and supported by the unwavering unity of the Azerbaijani people, the Armed Forces successfully restored the country's territorial integrity in accordance with international law and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. The victory marked a historic achievement and reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to justice, sovereignty, and the principles of international law.

The successful anti-terror measures conducted in September 2023 further reinforced Azerbaijan's sovereignty throughout its internationally recognized territories and completed the restoration of constitutional order. These developments opened a new chapter in the history of Azerbaijan, creating favorable conditions for sustainable peace, regional cooperation, reconstruction, and development.

Today, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces continue to play a vital role in ensuring national security and contributing to regional stability. Their professionalism, discipline, and operational capabilities stand as a testament to the effectiveness of ongoing military reforms and the state's unwavering support for its defense institutions.

Beyond safeguarding national interests, Azerbaijan actively contributes to international peace and security efforts. Azerbaijani servicemen have participated in various international peacekeeping missions and have worked alongside international partners to support global stability and combat common security challenges. These contributions reflect Azerbaijan's responsible approach to international cooperation and its commitment to strengthening peace and mutual understanding among nations.

As Azerbaijan celebrates Armed Forces Day, it pays tribute to the memory of all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland and expresses profound gratitude to veterans and active military personnel whose dedication and service continue to inspire future generations. Their heroism, patriotism, and selfless commitment remain a source of national pride and unity.

June 26 is not only a day of remembrance and gratitude but also an opportunity to recognize the remarkable achievements of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and their indispensable role in preserving peace, protecting national interests, and contributing to the country's continued development and prosperity.

On this solemn and proud occasion, the Republic of Azerbaijan reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities, promoting regional peace and cooperation, and building a secure and prosperous future for generations to come.

Happy Armed Forces Day to all servicemen of Azerbaijan.
