Oracle, one of the world's largest software developers, has laid off approximately 21,000 employees over the past 12 months. This information is contained in company documents published on the website of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Interfax reports.
As of the end of May, Oracle's headcount was approximately 141,000. A year earlier, the company employed 162,000 people. Of this total, approximately 49,000 are employed in the United States, and another 92,000 are located in other countries.
According to company documents, expenses associated with employee layoffs amounted to approximately $1.8 billion.
Oracle also reported that some of the layoffs are related to the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies. The company noted that the use of AI in operational processes has already led to headcount reductions and may lead to further layoffs in the future.
"The implementation and deployment of AI technologies in our operational processes has led to, and may continue to lead to, a reduction in headcount," the company said in a statement.
Amid these changes, Oracle's market capitalization has declined by 10% since the beginning of 2026 and is currently around $530 billion.
