US President Donald Trump said he warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington might withdraw its support if the conflict with Iran escalates further, RIA Novosti reports.
In an interview with Israeli television channel N12, the American leader said he urged the Israeli prime minister to exercise caution in his actions. According to Trump, he warned Netanyahu that Israel could be left alone against Iran.
"I told him: 'Bibi, you must be very careful in your actions, because very soon you may be left alone against Iran,'" he told N12 TV channel.
The US President also noted that five countries acting as mediators between Washington and Tehran have asked him to put pressure on the Israeli leadership to reduce tensions.
According to Trump, Israel notified the American side of its actions at a late stage. He claimed that he had succeeded in reducing the scale of the planned attack.
Last night, Iran launched an attack on Israeli territory following a recent Israeli airstrike on a Beirut suburb. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that the Ramat David airbase was the target, where ballistic missiles were fired.
Throughout the night and morning, the sides continued to exchange strikes on military facilities, as well as petrochemical plants.
Trump said he subsequently held telephone conversations with Benjamin Netanyahu and representatives of the Hezbollah movement, after which he announced a ceasefire between the parties.
