On June 5, 2026, a meeting of the ministers of internal affairs and public security of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic, the press service of the Organization reported.
The event was attended by heads and high-ranking representatives of the ministries of internal affairs and public security of the SCO member states, the SCO Secretary-General, the Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure, as well as the Secretary-General of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and the Director of the Bureau for the Coordination of the Fight against Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Types of Crime in the Territories of the CIS Member States.

The meeting participants discussed in detail issues of cooperation in the area of law enforcement and public safety.
Speaking at the meeting, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that global security is facing new challenges and threats, requiring the rapid adaptation of national law enforcement systems. He noted that one of the most alarming trends is the rapid increase in crimes committed using the internet, including artificial intelligence technologies.
Nurlan Yermekbayev also emphasized that the convergence of cybercrime with drug trafficking and organized crime is a serious concern.
The SCO Secretary-General stated that active work is currently underway to modernize the organization and adapt it to modern conditions. He emphasized that an important element of this process is improving existing mechanisms and creating new ones to respond to complex and constantly evolving security threats through dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Particular attention, he noted, is being paid to the formation of a system of specialized SCO bodies that meets modern requirements.
In addition, Nurlan Yermekbaev emphasized the need for a comprehensive update of the organization's legal framework in the area of combating crime, as well as the expansion of the SCO's cooperation with Interpol and other international organizations.
During the meeting, the SCO Secretariat's readiness to continue to provide comprehensive assistance to member states and make proposals for developing cooperation was confirmed.
Following the meeting, a signing ceremony of the minutes of the meeting and a final press conference were held.
