On May 20, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Tajikistan Guo Zhijun held a press conference at the Chinese Embassy in Dushanbe to discuss the results of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon's state visit to China.

The event was attended by the Acting Head of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sukhrobzoda Sharofiddin, Advisor to the State Unitary Enterprise "Dipservice" of the Republic of Tajikistan, Rashidov, as well as representatives of Tajik and foreign media.

As Guo Zhijun noted, Emomali Rahmon's visit to China took place from May 11 to 14 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and marked an important stage in the further development of Tajik-Chinese relations.

According to the Chinese diplomat, during the talks, the two heads of state discussed a wide range of issues, including strengthening political trust, developing the Belt and Road Initiative, expanding trade and economic cooperation, humanitarian exchanges, security cooperation, and coordination on international platforms.

The ambassador reported that 31 cooperation agreements and documents were signed following the visit. These included the Treaty of Eternal Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation, as well as the Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the New Era.

"The signing of these documents marked an important historical milestone in the development of relations between the two countries," the diplomat emphasized.

Guo Zhijun noted that the leaders of Tajikistan and China paid special attention to developing new areas of cooperation, including the digital economy, artificial intelligence, green energy, high technology, agriculture, education, culture, and media.

The ambassador specifically highlighted the economic results of the visit. He noted that a Tajik-Chinese digital business forum was held in Beijing, attended by over 120 Chinese technology companies and 70 Tajik enterprises.

The diplomat named major Chinese companies such as TikTok, BYD, and Huawei among the participating companies. Following the negotiations and business meetings, over 50 cooperation documents were signed.

According to Guo Zhijun, the implementation of the agreements reached is expected to attract approximately $8 billion in investment into the Tajik economy.

According to the ambassador, China retained its status as Tajikistan's largest trading partner and primary source of foreign investment in 2025. In the first quarter of this year, bilateral trade reached $790 million, an increase of more than 50 percent compared to the same period last year.

During the press conference, the Chinese diplomat also spoke in detail about Emomali Rahmon's visit to Chongqing. He noted that the Tajik president visited major industrial enterprises, including the SERES super plant and the Zongshen Industrial Park, where he learned about the production of modern electric vehicles and motorcycles.

Guo Zhijun reported that Emomali Rahmon personally tested the AITO Wenjie M9 electric vehicle and emphasized Tajikistan's interest in expanding industrial and investment cooperation with Chinese companies.

One of the central topics of the press conference was educational and humanitarian cooperation. The ambassador recalled that during his visit, Emomali Rahmon visited Peking University, where he was awarded the title of "Honorary Professor."

According to the diplomat, the Tajik president emphasized in his speech the importance of expanding cooperation in education, science, and personnel training. Emomali Rahmon noted that approximately 6,000 students from Tajikistan are currently studying at Chinese universities.

In addition, the Tajik leader announced his readiness to open a third Confucius Institute in the city of Danghara.

A question from our Avesta.tj journalist regarding the Taiwan issue and its reflection in joint documents between the two countries attracted particular attention during the press conference.

In response to a question from our Avesta.tj journalist, Guo Zhijun stated that mutual support on key issues of national interest is an important part of Tajik-Chinese relations and reflects the high level of political trust between the two countries.

The ambassador emphasized that Tajikistan consistently adheres to the "one China" principle and supports Beijing's position on issues of the country's territorial integrity.

"China highly values this position of the Tajik side," the diplomat stated.

He also noted that the Chinese side opposes the politicization of human rights issues and supports Tajikistan in protecting national interests.

Speaking about the international agenda, Guo Zhijun touched on US President Donald Trump's visit to China. He stated that the Taiwan issue has become a key topic of discussion between Beijing and Washington.

The ambassador noted that the parties support maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and oppose any attempts to support Taiwan's independence.

At the conclusion of the press conference, Guo Zhijun expressed confidence that the agreements reached during Emomali Rahmon's state visit will give new impetus to the development of Tajik-Chinese cooperation and open up additional opportunities for the implementation of joint projects in various fields.
