Chinese and Tajik companies signed contracts worth over $8 billion in Beijing, the press service of the President of Tajikistan reported. Emomali Rahmon is currently on a state visit to China and met with the business community the day before.
Chinese investment in Tajikistan's economy has already reached nearly $6 billion, of which approximately $3.5 billion is direct cash flow.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon: "More than 700 Chinese companies have already invested in various sectors of the Tajik economy. I am confident that the deep integration of our economic, technological, and financial resources will provide a powerful impetus for new development opportunities, joint projects, and sustainable growth."
Beijing notes the mutual interest and benefits from the implementation of various bilateral initiatives.
Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao: "Trade volumes are steadily growing. Tajikistan's specialized agricultural products, such as black cherries, are becoming increasingly popular among Chinese consumers. At the same time, Chinese photovoltaic products and lithium batteries are helping support Tajikistan's green development."
In the first quarter of this year alone, bilateral trade turnover reached $790 million. Beijing has become Dushanbe's largest trading partner and remains a major source of foreign investment.
PowerChina International Group CEO Tang Yuhua: "We have currently completed or are currently constructing 18 projects in Tajikistan. The total contract value is $580 million."
Li Mao, head of China Pingmei Shenma Energy Chemical Group, said: "We are planning to launch a new coal urea production line with a capacity of 300,000 tons, with an estimated investment of $300 million."
Representatives from a wide range of business sectors attended the meeting in Beijing: robotics, artificial intelligence, new energy, education, and digital technologies.
Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Ren Hongbin: "During the organization of this meeting, we observed great enthusiasm from Chinese companies eager to participate, reflecting the keen interest and positive expectations of business circles for cooperation with Tajikistan."
President Emomali Rahmon noted his country's advantageous geographic location and the many areas in which investment is possible, from energy and the pharmaceutical industry to tourism development.
