According to a March 2026 Pew Research Center survey, the majority of Americans still view China negatively, but the share of positive views has increased significantly. Currently, approximately 27% of Americans view China positively. This is 6 percentage points higher than last year and almost double the 2023 figure.
Beyond general attitudes, perceptions of US-China relations are also changing. In another Pew Research survey conducted in January, the share of respondents calling China an "enemy of the US" was 28%, down from 33% in 2025. Meanwhile, 60% of respondents consider China a "competitor of the US" (compared to 56% in 2025). Approximately one in ten respondents in both 2025 and 2026 calls China a partner of the US.
