On April 28, 2026, a meeting of defense ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic. This was reported by the SCO press service.
The meeting was attended by the heads of defense departments of the participating countries, the SCO Secretary-General, and the Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure.
During the meeting, the parties engaged in a comprehensive exchange of views on current regional and international security issues. Participants noted ongoing challenges and threats, including international terrorism, extremism, transnational crime, and new risks in information and cybersecurity.
The ministers emphasized the importance of further strengthening trust and mutual understanding between the armed forces of member states, as well as the need to expand practical cooperation. Specifically, they discussed joint exercises, exchanging experience, and developing mechanisms for military cooperation within the SCO.
In his speech, the SCO Secretary-General noted the importance of consolidating the efforts of member states in the area of security, coordinating between defense ministries, and increasing the effectiveness of joint measures to counter modern challenges and threats.
