Cases of acute intestinal infectious disease have been reported in the city of Penjikent after visiting a local restaurant. According to the Center for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Sughd Region, an emergency report was received on April 6, 2026, regarding four people suspected of having the infection.
According to the patients, their condition worsened after eating grilled chicken at the Abubakr restaurant in the city center. All the victims have been discharged from the hospital after 24 hours of treatment and are in satisfactory condition.
That same day, a task force of healthcare workers was formed in Penjikent. Twenty-five people suspected of having the disease underwent door-to-door medical examinations. Laboratory samples were taken for diagnosis. After diagnosis, all those examined were discharged within 24 hours in satisfactory condition.
At the same time, specialists from the Penjikent State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Center conducted an inspection of the restaurant. The inspection revealed violations of sanitary and epidemiological regulations during the processing and storage of perishable food products.
Taking into account the violations identified, the establishment’s activities have been temporarily suspended until all deficiencies are fully rectified.
