Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday said it was important for China and Spain to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, new energy and the smart economy, as well as to promote bilateral exchanges in culture, education, scientific research and sports.
Xi Jinping made this statement during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who is on an official visit to China.
China and Spain should seize emerging opportunities and strive for innovative development, Xi Jinping noted. The two countries should work to ensure that their comprehensive strategic partnership yields greater results and brings greater benefits to their peoples, he said.
Xi Jinping noted that, despite the intertwined changes and chaos in the current international situation, bilateral relations between China and Spain are developing steadily, characterized by strategic resolve. Furthermore, making the right decisions based on shared interests is an important learning experience.
Facts have proven that deepening cooperation serves the interests of the two peoples, is in line with the general trend of the times, and strengthens both sides' capacity and confidence in pursuing the path of independence and self-reliance, Xi Jinping said.
He called on China and Spain to prioritize the development of bilateral relations in the two countries' foreign policies and support each other in protecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"We are firmly committed to advancing China's modernization and, guided by a broad vision, are willing to share development opportunities with the world through high-level opening-up," Xi said, adding that China will inject confidence and impetus into global economic growth through its own development.
The world today is full of turbulence and is facing a struggle between the rule of law and the rule of force, Xi Jinping pointed out, calling on China and Spain, as countries with integrity and morality, to intensify communication, strengthen mutual trust, and closely cooperate to prevent the world from returning to the "law of the jungle" and jointly uphold true multilateralism.
He emphasized that both countries must defend the international system, with the UN at its core, and the international order based on international law, promote the formation of an equal and orderly multipolar world, a beneficial and inclusive economic globalization for all, and build a community of shared destiny for humanity.
