Kamchybek Tashiev has resigned as president of the Kyrgyz Football Union (KFU), a post he held since 2024, 24.kg reported.
He announced his decision at the organization's latest congress, noting that he would not run for re-election. He said he considered his mission complete.
Speaking to congress participants, Tashiev emphasized that the leadership of a football organization must be led by someone truly passionate about the sport. He also stated that he would remain involved in football, but did not specify in what capacity.
It is noted that Tashiev has connections with Kyrgyz and international football organizations. Specifically, he is linked to the Manas-based club Muras United. During his tenure, the union established direct contacts with the Slovakian club Trenčín, the Barcelona system, and a number of Balkan professionals. With his assistance, Robert Prosinečki was appointed head coach of the national team.
During his tenure, 17 new stadiums were built in the country at a cost of approximately $80 million, with another 14 sports facilities under construction. According to Tashiev, over $170 million in investment has been attracted to football development.
He also noted that private investors were brought in to develop the clubs, and of the 16 clubs, only three are partially linked to the state, while the rest are private.
The new president of the Kyrgyz Football Union has not yet been determined. The issue was removed from the agenda due to a lack of candidates. Until a new head of the union is elected, Nurdin Bukuev, the organization's first vice president, will serve as acting president.
