On March 11, 2026, a meeting of the Working Group on Monitoring the Economic Situation in CIS Member States and Preparing Specific Proposals for Possible Joint Responses to Emerging Problems was held at the CIS Executive Committee Office in Moscow. This was reported by the CIS Executive Committee's press service.
The meeting was attended by representatives of ministries and departments from the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Also present were plenipotentiary representatives of the Commonwealth member states to the Economic Affairs Commission of the CIS Economic Council, representatives of the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, and the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting was organized in accordance with a proposal from the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan submitted to the CIS Executive Committee. The proposal concerns the implementation of an initiative to launch mechanisms within the CIS Economic Council to rapidly respond to changes in the external environment and reorient trade flows. This initiative was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev, during the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State on October 10, 2025.
In developing this initiative, the Uzbek side proposed considering the possibility of updating the List of Joint Measures to Response to Emerging Economic Problems, developed by the Working Group in 2022.
Addressing the meeting participants, CIS Deputy Secretary-General Ilkhom Tuychievich Nematov noted that, against the backdrop of a deepening global economic crisis, economic stability in the CIS countries can only be achieved through the development of mutual trade, expanded industrial cooperation, and collaboration in science and high technology.
According to him, this is precisely the aim of the Republic of Uzbekistan's initiative and the proposed measures for its implementation by updating the List of Joint Response Measures to Emerging Problems.
The parties supported the initiative to prepare a draft resolution of the CIS Economic Council on interaction in current areas of economic cooperation to jointly respond to emerging economic problems.
The relevant materials will be sent to the CIS member states for further approval.
