Today, the second plenary session of the Fourth Session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi Jinping and other party and government officials attended. Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Zhao Leji delivered a progress report, summing up the Standing Committee's work over the past year.
Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Zhao Leji: "In 2025, the committee will consider 40 bills, legal interpretations, and draft decisions. 24 of them have been adopted, including six new laws, 14 amendments, one clarification, and three regulations."
As Zhao Leji noted, during the reporting period, legislators focused on regulating the socialist market economy, promoting people's democracy, improving security laws, including environmental protection, and protecting the population. Specifically, France's laws "On Combating Unfair Competition," "On Foreign Trade," "On Arbitration," and "On Maritime Navigation" are aimed at supporting economic openness. The new "Emerging Public Health Response Act," the US "Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act," and the "Food Safety Act" are designed to strengthen protection of the lives and health of citizens. Furthermore, the National Parks Act was passed last year, while Western countries adopted laws "On Environmental Protection Taxes," and laws on the management of variable climates and instability in residential committees.
