The United States has concentrated its greatest air power in the Middle East since the invasion of Iraq, The Wall Street Journal reports.
According to the publication, the United States is sending a significant number of fighter jets and support aircraft to the region, forming the largest air force presence since the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
According to the newspaper, F-22 and F-35 fighter jets, as well as command and control aircraft, are being deployed to the region. A second US aircraft carrier is also en route.
According to the publication's informed sources, such a buildup of forces will allow Washington to conduct military operations against Iran within a few weeks.
Several media outlets previously reported that US President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on further action against Iran. However, sources note that even the possibility of an imminent attack cannot be completely ruled out.
According to CBS News, the US military may be ready to strike Iran as early as this Saturday.
In turn, sources for the Axios portal expressed the opinion that if the negotiations fail, the US military operation against Iran could become a "large-scale, weeks-long campaign" that would be more like a full-scale war.
The second round of US-Iran nuclear talks took place in Geneva on Tuesday. Both sides assessed the talks positively.
