In 2025, 184 drownings were recorded in lakes and rivers in Tajikistan, resulting in 180 deaths. This was announced at a press conference on February 6 by Rajabali Rahmonali, Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tajikistan.
As the head of the department clarified, only 40 of the 180 fatalities drowned while swimming. The remaining cases were related to traffic accidents, suicides, natural disasters, and other circumstances.
According to the Committee, 12 of the dead were under 4 years old, 26 were between 5 and 10 years old, 33 were between 11 and 16 years old, 66 were between 17 and 35 years old, and 43 were 36 years and older. Of the total number of dead, 32 were women.
Rajabali Rahmonali also commented on the reasons why citizens continue to swim in prohibited areas despite the existing danger. According to him, the main reason is the lack of officially authorized and equipped swimming areas.
In addition, it was reported at the press conference that in 2025, Tajikistan's economy suffered damage as a result of natural emergencies in the amount of 20 million 758 thousand somoni.
As the Chairman of the Emergency Situations Committee noted, 287 natural disasters occurred in the country last year. Six of these disasters resulted in the deaths of six residents of the republic.
