Traffic on the Dushanbe-Chanok highway has been temporarily suspended due to 23 avalanches between kilometers 60 and 73 in the Varzob district.
According to the IRS branch that maintains the road, the decision to close the route was made to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers. Vehicles caught in the avalanche zone were towed to safe locations with the assistance of road services.

Road clearing operations are ongoing at the site. All necessary equipment has been deployed, and the roadway is being treated with anti-slip agents. A reopening date has not yet been set.
In addition to the 23 avalanches that occurred last night, six more avalanches were recorded this morning in the Varzob district, the IRS branch reports.
Due to heavy and prolonged snowfall, the snow depth on some sections of the route reached 35 centimeters.

The previous evening, an Opel was caught in an avalanche at kilometer 66 of the road. Service company personnel arrived at the scene, the driver and passengers were rescued, and the car was extracted from the snow using specialized equipment. There were no injuries.
Drivers and passengers are strongly urged to refrain from traveling along this route until official announcement of the highway's opening.
