Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri announced at a press conference that, starting February 1, 2026, tourists will be required to purchase a €2 ticket to access the Trevi Fountain, Interfax reports , citing ANSA.
Paid ticket access is being introduced for six historical attractions.
Entry to the Villa Maxentius, the Napoleonic Museum, the Barracco Museum, the Carlo Bilotti Museum, and the Casa-Museo di Pietro Canonica will also be subject to a fee. Tickets for each of these attractions will cost €5.
The paid entrance to the fountain, which is visited by approximately 9 million tourists annually, is expected to bring the city 6.5 million euros per year, Gualtieri noted.
Entry will remain free for local residents.
