On December 19, 2025, the Moscow Office of the CIS Executive Committee hosted a meeting of the expert group to develop a draft Action Plan for the first stage (2026–2030) for the implementation of the Key Areas of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in Forestry and the Forest Industry for the period up to 2035. The Key Areas were approved at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government on September 29, 2025, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The event was held via videoconference with the participation of representatives from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, as well as the CIS Executive Committee and the Belarusian State Technological University, the basic organization of the CIS member states for education in the field of forestry and the forest industry.
The meeting was chaired by Mikhail Evgenievich Myskin, Director of the CIS Executive Committee's Department of Economic Cooperation. The experts thoroughly discussed the proposals and amendments presented and approved the draft document. Following the internal approval process, the draft Action Plan will be submitted to the highest CIS bodies for review in accordance with established procedures.
The implementation of the Action Plan is expected to introduce economic incentives and effective mechanisms to intensify forest use and restoration, promote afforestation, and create a favorable environment for the development of forestry and the forest industry in CIS member states. Implementation of the Plan will enhance the competitiveness of the forestry sector in the economies of the Commonwealth countries.
The meeting participants placed particular emphasis on improving the effectiveness of forest fire protection, protecting forests from pests, diseases, and other adverse factors, preserving the ecological potential of forests, and deepening cooperation among CIS member states on ensuring transparency in the forest sector. This, they believe, will contribute to the preservation of the genetic, species, ecosystem, and landscape diversity of forests, the creation of a favorable environment for citizens, and the preservation of the biosphere's role of forests.
