The Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan commented on the causes of the freight train accident in the Yavan district.
According to the Khatlon Region Emergency Situations Committee, the incident occurred on the morning of December 14, 2025, at approximately 7:00 AM in the Norin jamoat, in the village of Zafar in the Yavan district. A freight train traveling along the Bokhtar-Yavan railway derailed while in motion.
According to official information from the agency, the accident was caused by prolonged rains, which led to soil erosion in the area of the Kaiparsoy artificial reservoir, along which the railway runs.
Currently, the Emergency Situations Commission under the executive authorities of the Yavan district, as well as forces and resources of the Unified State System of the district and rescuers from the Special Rapid Response Unit of the Office of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense in the Khatlon region, consisting of six people, are working at the scene of the incident.
Earlier, the state unitary enterprise "Rohi Ohani Tojikiston" reported that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
