Tajikistan plans to introduce a recycling fee for imported batteries of all types, according to the country's Ministry of Transport.
According to amendments and additions to the law "On Other Mandatory Payments to the Budget," adopted on December 3 at a meeting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, entrepreneurs will be required to pay a recycling fee when importing batteries and electric batteries into the country.
The payment will be collected once during customs clearance, and the funds will go to the republic's budget.
The payment amount is determined depending on the weight of the battery:
— batteries from 0.5 to 10 kilograms — 37.5 somoni (0.5 indicator for calculations);
— batteries from 10.1 to 30 kilograms — 75 somoni (1 indicator for calculations);
— batteries over 30 kilograms — 2.6 somoni per kilogram (3.5% of one indicator).
The purpose of introducing amendments and additions to the law is to ensure the environmental safety of the republic, protect the health of citizens, and prevent harm from hazardous waste arising from the wear and tear and use of electric batteries.
