The Tajik State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Sadriddin Aini plans to perform a gala concert at the Rome Opera in 2026. The theatre's press service reported this.
The beginning of this year was marked by a tour to Paris, where the ballet company demonstrated a high level of skill on the stage of one of France's oldest theaters, the Théâtre du Gymnase Marie-Bell. The performances resonated widely with European audiences and led to invitations to perform in other countries.
"We are proud that, for the 35th anniversary of Independence Day, the most important holiday for every Tajik, we will be able to present our country's opera on the world's main stage, in the birthplace of opera—Italy. This tremendous achievement was made possible thanks to the far-sighted policies of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, the Leader of the Nation, and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon," noted Kamoliddin Saifiddinzoda, Director of the Sadriddin Aini Tajik State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.
Negotiations with the Italian side are ongoing. In early 2026, the theater director will travel to Rome on a working visit, where he will meet with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Italy, Jamoliddin Ubaidullo, and discuss organizational matters for the upcoming tour with his Italian colleagues.
The gala concert program, which will be performed by Tajik theater artists, is currently being developed. It will feature a synthesis of national and world classics. According to preliminary information, the repertoire will include arias from the golden legacy of Tajik opera: "Rudaki" by Sh. Saifiddinov, "Vose's Rebellion" by S. Balasanyan, "The Return" by Y. Sabzanov, and works by Ziyodullo and Tolibkhon Shakhidi, D. Dustmuhammedov, T. Sattorov, and others.
The program will also include excerpts from world-famous works: Bizet's Carmen, Verdi's Rigoletto and La Traviata, Puccini's La Bohème, Donizetti's La Favorite, Rossini's The Barber of Seville, and others. The theater believes such a broad range will allow it to showcase the company's versatility.
The gala concert will feature leading opera soloists, a choir conducted by Honored Artist of the Republic of Tajikistan Elena Tilloeva, and a symphony orchestra conducted by Anvar Shoimurodov. Sukhrob Usmonov will direct.
"Academic music is one of the country's cultural calling cards. At the government level, close attention is paid to this area, colossal efforts are being made to develop it, and comprehensive support is provided, which we, as artists, consistently appreciate," concluded theater director Kamoliddin Saifiddinzoda.
