On November 19, 2025, the 13th meeting of the Council for Cooperation in Fundamental Science of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Moscow. Representatives from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and the CIS Executive Committee participated in the event, according to the CIS Executive Committee press service.
During the meeting, participants heard information on the implementation of decisions from the previous Council meeting, learned about the Russian Academy of Sciences' activities in collaborating on fundamental research in the CIS, approved the draft Strategy for the Development of Science in the Commonwealth of Independent States, and summarized the work to create a network of educational centers in scientific institutions across the CIS to organize internships for graduate students and young scientists.
Council members discussed the preparation of the draft Interstate Program for Fundamental Research of the Commonwealth States and the implementation of the List of Promising Scientific Projects corresponding to priority areas of fundamental research.
Special attention was given to the creation of a joint journal, "Science of the Commonwealth of Independent States," at the meeting. The publication is expected to promote interstate scientific and technological cooperation, integration in breakthrough areas of science, engineering, and technology, as well as leveraging the competitive advantages of each state and the formation of a common scientific and technological space.
In addition, the participants heard information about the activities of the Council of Young Scientists under the Council for Cooperation in Fundamental Science in 2025 and approved the draft Regulation on a basic organization in the field of medical-biological and socio-psychological support for people in stressful and extreme conditions, including space.
At the meeting, the Chairman of the Council was elected – the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akhylbek Kurishbayev.
The next meeting of the Council for Cooperation in Fundamental Science of the CIS countries is scheduled for 2026 in Almaty (Republic of Kazakhstan).
