A man has been detained in Dushanbe. According to the city police, he is suspected of involvement in an incident that occurred 25 years ago and involved the serious injury of a student. According to the Dushanbe Department of Internal Affairs, the arrest was made possible thanks to the work of a team of prosecutors and police officers dedicated to solving crimes from previous years.
According to widespread reports, the incident occurred in 2000. At that time, Iles Toliev, a law student at the Tajik National University, brought a pistol to class, frightened his classmates, and, through careless handling, fired a shot at Sitora Kenjaeva, a student sitting in front of him. She was seriously wounded and, according to the report, still suffers from the after-effects.
Following the incident, according to investigators, Toliev fled abroad. Law enforcement agencies have not specified his exact location or the circumstances under which he was detained.
In the published video, Toliev admitted to careless handling of the weapon and stated that after the incident, he "got scared and threw the pistol into the Dushanbinka River."
As noted, in 2000, a criminal case was opened against Toliev under Articles 32, Part 3, and 104, Part 2, Clause 3 (attempted murder), as well as Article 195, Part 1 (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. He was placed on the wanted list.
